Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, widely known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again or NBA YoungBoy, is an influential American rapper born in 1999. Rising from Baton Rouge, he quickly built a loyal regional following through a rapid series of mixtapes between 2015 and 2017. Signing with Atlantic Records in 2017, he broke into the mainstream with hits like "Untouchable," "No Smoke," and the quadruple platinum "Outside Today." His debut album, Until Death Call My Name, reached the top ten of the Billboard 200 in 2018.
YoungBoy’s career skyrocketed with the top ten hit "Bandit" alongside Juice Wrld, and a string of successful projects followed. Albums like AI YoungBoy 2, 38 Baby 2, Top, and Sincerely, Kentrell—all debuted at number one or two on the charts, making YoungBoy one of hip hop’s most consistent chart-toppers. Notably, Sincerely, Kentrell was released while he was incarcerated, joining a select group of artists to top the charts from behind bars.
He has amassed over 85 million digital sales in the US and more than 15 billion YouTube views, earning recognition as one of the most certified and viewed artists of his generation. YoungBoy is the youngest in Billboard history to chart 100 singles on the Hot 100, and he leads hip hop in RIAA platinum-certified albums over the past decade. He has also been nominated for major awards, including the Grammy Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards.
Despite his prolific output and influence, YoungBoy’s career has been marked by legal challenges and multiple periods of incarceration, including several years on house arrest. Even so, he maintained a steady stream of releases and remained a major force in hip hop. Upon his release from federal custody in 2025, he was granted a presidential pardon.
In addition to his own music, YoungBoy founded the Never Broke Again label, helping launch the careers of artists such as NoCap and Quando Rondo. His legacy is underscored by his relentless productivity, chart domination, and undeniable impact on modern rap.
