Tony Joe White, known as the Swamp Fox, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, celebrated for his deep, bluesy sound and storytelling lyrics. He gained fame with his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie," a song that became even more widely known through covers by legends like Elvis Presley and Tom Jones. White also wrote "Rainy Night in Georgia," which became a classic in the hands of Brook Benton, as well as "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent for the Blues," both recorded by Tina Turner.
