The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 1988, featuring Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty. Known for their roots rock sound, they are often called one of the greatest supergroups of all time. The band began as a one-off collaboration, but their first single Handle with Care led to the creation of a full album, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1, which became a critical and commercial success. After Orbison’s passing in late 1988, the group released a second album, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, as a quartet. Adopting playful pseudonyms and a family backstory, the Wilburys revitalized the careers of several members and earned a Grammy for their debut. Although their time together was brief and they never officially reunited, their music continues to be celebrated, with their albums reissued in a 2007 box set.
