The Sword is a heavy metal band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2003. Known for blending doom metal and hard rock influences, the group features John D. Cronise on vocals and guitar, Kyle Shutt on guitar, Bryan Richie on bass, and Santiago Vela III on drums. Their debut album, Age of Winters, was released in 2006 and was soon followed by Gods of the Earth, which brought them onto the US Billboard charts. With later albums like Warp Riders and Apocryphon, the band expanded their sound and gained a strong following, touring with major acts such as Metallica and Lamb of God. After briefly disbanding in 2022, The Sword has since reunited and returned to touring, maintaining a reputation for powerful live shows and a unique blend of heavy genres.
