Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister was an American heavy metal band formed in 1972 in New Jersey and later based on Long Island, New York. Known for their wild hairstyles, theatrical makeup, and flamboyant outfits, they became icons of the 1980s glam metal scene. The band’s best-known hits, such as We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock, gained massive popularity through their humorous music videos and rebellious spirit. After evolving from an earlier group called Silver Star, Twisted Sister established their classic lineup in 1982, featuring Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda, Dee Snider, Mark Mendoza, and A. J. Pero. Their early albums built a loyal fanbase, but it was the release of Stay Hungry in 1984 that brought them mainstream success. Following a decline in popularity, the group disbanded in 1988 but later reunited for tours and special albums, including a Christmas-themed release. Twisted Sister officially concluded their career after a farewell tour in 2016, shortly after the passing of drummer A. J. Pero. The band remains celebrated for their energetic performances and lasting influence on hard rock and heavy metal, earning a place on VH1’s list of the 100 greatest hard rock artists.
