Deicide is a pioneering American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed in 1987 by Steve Asheim and brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman, later joined by Glen Benton. Originally known as Carnage, then Amon, the band became Deicide in 1989. Known for their aggressive sound and controversial lyrics focused on Satanism and anti-Christian themes, Deicide gained mainstream attention with their 1992 album Legion and is recognized as one of the best-selling death metal acts of the Soundscan era.
