Kamaal Ibn John Fareed, known professionally as Q-Tip, is an influential American rapper, producer, singer, and DJ. A pioneering figure in hip hop, he gained prominence as the lead MC and producer of A Tribe Called Quest, shaping the genre with his innovative jazz-influenced sound and introspective lyrics. In addition to the group’s groundbreaking work, he has released acclaimed solo albums such as Amplified, The Renaissance, and Kamaal the Abstract. Beyond music, Q-Tip is active as an actor, radio host, and educator, and has served as artistic director for hip hop culture at the Kennedy Center. Widely regarded as one of hip hop’s greatest artists and producers, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of A Tribe Called Quest in 2024.
