Plácido Domingo is a renowned Spanish opera singer, conductor, and arts administrator, celebrated for his extraordinary versatility and international career. Over several decades, he has performed more than 150 roles across the world's top opera houses, singing in multiple languages including Italian, French, German, Spanish, English, and Russian. Originally famous as a lirico-spinto tenor with standout performances in roles like Otello, Cavaradossi, Don José, Hoffmann, and Canio, he later transitioned into prominent baritone parts, such as Simon Boccanegra.
Beyond opera, Domingo has found success in popular and Latin music, earning fourteen Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. His duet "Perhaps Love" with John Denver reached a wide global audience, and he became a household name as a member of The Three Tenors, whose debut album became the best-selling classical record of all time. Domingo has also appeared in several film and television productions and has contributed significantly to the world of zarzuela, the traditional Spanish lyric-dramatic genre, inspired by his early experience in his family's company in Mexico.
Domingo has held major leadership roles, including general director of both the Los Angeles Opera and the Washington National Opera.
