Placebo is a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by singer-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Both Molko and Olsdal grew up in Luxembourg, later moving to London. Originally joined by drummer Robert Schultzberg, who left in 1996, Placebo became known for their distinct androgynous style and Molko’s expressive lyrics that tackled sexuality, mental health, and drug use. The band broke through with the single "Nancy Boy" and found international success with their 1998 album "Without You I’m Nothing." After several lineup changes, Placebo became a duo in 2015, often performing with additional live musicians. They have collaborated with artists including David Bowie and Michael Stipe, released eight studio albums reaching the UK Top 20, and sold about 14 million records worldwide.
