Pearl Harbor and the Explosions was a San Francisco-based new wave band that formed in 1979. They are best known for their single "Drivin'," which reached the lower end of the Billboard chart in 1980, and their self-titled debut album featuring the popular track "Shut Up and Dance," a Bay Area radio favorite. The band was fronted by Pearl E. Gates, who later moved to the UK and married Paul Simonon of The Clash. After Gates left, the remaining members continued performing as Peter Bilt and the Expressions.
