Madder Mortem is a Norwegian progressive metal band founded by siblings Agnete and BP M. Kirkevaag in 1993. Originally performing under the name Mystery Tribe, they shifted from doom and gothic influences to a more progressive sound and adopted the name Madder Mortem in 1997. Their debut album, Mercury, arrived in 1999, but a label collapse led to major lineup changes, leaving the Kirkevaags as the core members. Over the years, the band has released a series of acclaimed albums, including All Flesh Is Grass and Deadlands, and is known for blending heavy riffs with haunting melodies and dynamic vocals. Notable later releases include Red In Tooth And Claw in 2016, Marrow in 2018, and Old Eyes New Heart in 2024, each showcasing the band's evolving sound and resilience through lineup changes. Madder Mortem stands out for their emotional depth, unique musical approach, and strong presence within the progressive metal scene.
