Dream Theater

Dream Theater is an influential American progressive metal band formed in 1985 in Boston, Massachusetts. The group features John Petrucci on guitar, John Myung on bass, Mike Portnoy on drums, James LaBrie on vocals, and Jordan Rudess on keyboards. Originally founded as Majesty by Petrucci, Myung, and Portnoy while studying at Berklee College of Music, the band became known for their complex compositions and technical musicianship. Dream Theater has released sixteen studio albums, with Images and Words (1992) being their most commercially successful. Other acclaimed releases include Awake, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and the renowned concept album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. Over the years, the band has experienced several lineup changes, but Petrucci and Myung have remained constant members. Portnoy left in 2010 but returned in 2023. Celebrated as one of the leading acts in progressive metal, Dream Theater has sold over 12 million records worldwide and received multiple Grammy nominations, winning their first Grammy in 2022. They are widely recognized for helping to define and popularize the genre alongside bands like Queensrÿche and Fates Warning.
