Donna Summer

Donna Summer, born Donna Adrian Gaines in 1948 in Boston, was an American singer and songwriter known worldwide as the Queen of Disco. Rising to fame in the 1970s, she played a key role in defining the disco era with hits like Love to Love You Baby, Last Dance, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, and I Feel Love—an influential track often credited as a forerunner to electronic dance music. Summer began her career with the band Crow before moving to New York and later to Munich, where she joined the musical Hair. She collaborated with producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, creating a string of successful albums for Casablanca Records. Summer was the first female artist to achieve three consecutive number one double albums in the United States, and she became known for her powerful vocals and ability to cross disco, pop, and rock genres. Throughout her career, Summer scored numerous chart-topping singles, won multiple awards, and her influence extended beyond disco to pop and dance music. She continued recording and performing until her death from lung cancer in 2012. Donna Summer’s legacy includes induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and recognition as one of the greatest dance music artists of all time.
