Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in 2002 by keyboardist Martijn Westerholt, following his time with Within Temptation. Initially conceived as a studio project, Delain truly took shape in 2005 when Westerholt joined forces with vocalist Charlotte Wessels, leading to the release of their acclaimed debut album Lucidity in 2006. Gaining recognition for blending heavy riffs with orchestral elements and melodic vocals, the band built a strong international presence. After several successful albums and lineup changes, the band underwent a major transformation in 2021. Westerholt reassembled Delain with a mix of former and new members, introducing Diana Leah as lead vocalist. With this renewed lineup, Delain released Dark Waters in 2023, continuing their legacy in the symphonic metal scene. By 2025, Delain's discography included seven studio albums, three EPs, a live album, and numerous music videos, marking them as a significant force within the genre.
