Death Grips is an American experimental hip-hop group formed in Sacramento, California in 2010. The band is made up of Stefan Burnett, also known as MC Ride, producer and drummer Zach Hill, and producer Andy Morin. Known for combining rap, punk, electronic, noise, and industrial influences, their raw energy, unpredictable sound, and elusive public presence have gained them critical acclaim and a dedicated cult following.
They first gained attention with the 2011 mixtape Exmilitary and their debut album The Money Store. The group became infamous for leaking their own music, including the controversial album No Love Deep Web, leading to their split from Epic Records. Death Grips continued to release music through their own label, Third Worlds, with albums like Government Plates, The Powers That B, Bottomless Pit, and Year of the Snitch. Their performances are known to be intense and their relationship with the media and fans is often cryptic. After releasing the EP Gmail and the Restraining Orders in 2019 and sharing some unreleased tracks in 2023, the band's future remains unclear, though rumors of a breakup have been denied by members.
