Cake is an American rock band from Sacramento, California, known for its blend of genres such as rock, funk, country, disco, folk, norteño, and mariachi, as well as singer John McCrea's witty, deadpan lyrics. The group originally formed in 1991 and currently features John McCrea, Vince DiFiore, Xan McCurdy, Daniel McCallum, and Todd Roper. Cake gained popularity in the mid 1990s with hits like "The Distance" from their platinum-selling album Fashion Nugget and later with "Short Skirt Long Jacket" from Comfort Eagle. Their distinct sound is marked by prominent trumpet lines and a dry vocal style. Over the years, Cake has experienced several lineup changes and label shifts, releasing standout albums including Motorcade of Generosity, Prolonging the Magic, and Showroom of Compassion, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts in 2011.
