Booker T. and the MGs were an influential American instrumental group formed in Memphis in 1962. Blending R and B, soul, and jazz, they helped define the Southern soul sound, especially through their association with Stax Records. The original line-up included Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Lewie Steinberg, and Al Jackson Jr., later joined by Donald Duck Dunn. As the core house band at Stax, they backed legendary artists such as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, and released their own iconic hits like Green Onions. Notably, the band was one of the first racially integrated groups in rock and soul music. Over their career, Booker T. and the MGs were recognized with inductions into multiple halls of fame, cementing their legacy as pioneers in American music.
