Blackpink
Blackpink is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment, featuring four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. Celebrated as one of the world’s biggest girl groups, they are recognized for their strong influence on global pop culture and their role in spreading self-confidence and female empowerment through the "girl crush" concept in K-pop.
The group made their debut in 2016 with the single album Square One, which produced hits like Whistle and Boombayah. Their international breakthrough continued with songs such as Playing with Fire and Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, the latter making history by becoming the first Korean girl group track to enter the UK Singles Chart and achieve RIAA certification. Blackpink’s music videos have repeatedly broken YouTube records, including the first by a Korean group to surpass one and two billion views.
Their albums The Album and Born Pink set new sales records for female acts in South Korea and helped Blackpink become the first Korean girl group to top both the Billboard 200 and UK Albums Chart. Hits like Pink Venom have led the group to the top of charts worldwide, and they have set records on major platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.
Blackpink has received numerous awards, including Golden Disc Awards, MAMA Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards, and were the first girl group to win Group of the Year at the MTV VMAs in the 21st century. Beyond music, they are involved in fashion, global endorsements, and advocacy for climate change awareness, for which they were honored as Members of the Order of the British Empire in 2023. Blackpink is widely acknowledged for their impact on K-pop's worldwide popularity and has been named Time’s Entertainer of the Year and featured in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia.
