BABYMETAL is a Japanese band formed in Tokyo in 2010, known for pioneering the fusion of heavy metal and Japanese idol pop. The group features Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) on lead vocals and dance, Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) on backing vocals and dance, and since 2023, Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) also on backing vocals and dance. Produced by Kobametal from Amuse Inc., BABYMETAL is supported by a rotating lineup of session musicians called the Kami Band.
Originally created as a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, BABYMETAL became independent in 2013. The group is recognized for its energetic performances and blending contrasting musical styles, capturing audiences worldwide. After lineup shifts, including the departure of founding member Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) in 2018, Okazaki joined as an official member.
BABYMETAL has released several acclaimed albums, including Babymetal, Metal Resistance, Metal Galaxy, and The Other One, and has toured extensively in Europe and the Americas. Their fifth album, Metal Forth, is set for release in 2025 and will feature international collaborations, marking a new chapter for the band.
