Soft Cell is an English synth-pop duo formed in the early 1980s by vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball. They are best known for their international hit “Tainted Love” and their debut album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. The group achieved twelve UK top 40 singles, including “Torch,” “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye,” “Bedsitter,” and “What,” and released four top 20 albums between 1981 and 1984. After splitting in 1984, they reunited in 2001 and have since toured and recorded new music, including a major reunion concert in 2018. Their influence is recognized in the synth and techno genres, and their music has been widely covered by other artists. Soft Cell has sold over ten million records worldwide.
