Fujifilm Instax Square SQ40 Black Pikakamera

Classic Analog Instant Camera with Auto Exposure

The Fujifilm Instax Square SQ40 is a fully automatic analog instant camera built around Fujifilm's larger SQUARE film format, designed to make point-and-shoot photography feel as tactile as the print it produces. A textured black body and rubberized grip give it a more grown-up look than the pastel SQ1 it shares its internals with. This model is the right choice for anyone who wants the surprise and charm of analog prints without juggling exposure dials.

What Sets it Apart in the Instax Lineup

Unlike the digital hybrid SQ10 and SQ20, the SQ40 is a fully analog camera — no sensor, no screen, no preview — which is exactly what makes it appealing to fans of the format. Its 2-component, 2-element f/65.75 mm lens at f/12.6 pairs with a programmed electronic shutter spanning 1/2 to 1/400 second, wider than older Mini models that topped out at 1/250 second.

Lens and Exposure System — Tuned for Point-and-Shoot Reliability

The fixed-aperture lens and automatic exposure logic are calibrated for the ISO 800 sensitivity of instax SQUARE film.

• Lens: 2 components, 2 elements, f = 65.75 mm, 1:12.6 — fixed-focus optic tuned for general-purpose framing
• Shutter Speeds: 1/2 to 1/400 sec, programmed electronic — wider range than Mini 11/12 for brighter outdoor scenes
• Exposure Control: Automatic, Lv 5.0 to 15.5 (ISO 800)

Film Format and Flash Performance

Prints emerge from the slot roughly 90 seconds after the shutter is pressed.

• Film: FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film, 86 × 72 mm cartridge — sold separately, available in multiple border colors
• Picture size is 62 × 62 mm, offering a generous canvas for your creative compositions.
• Flash Range: 0.3 to 2.2 m, recycle ≤ 7.5 sec — covers selfie to small-group distances
• Developing Time: approx. 90 seconds — image gradually appears after ejection

Body, Power, and Handling

The camera runs on a pair of CR2 lithium batteries that ship in the box.

• Power is provided by 2 × CR2 lithium batteries, offering capacity for approx. 30 instax SQUARE film packs per set.
• Dimensions: 134.2 × 120.2 × 60.5 mm
• Weight: 453 g (without batteries, strap, and film) — light enough for everyday carry
• Viewfinder: Reverse Galilean, 0.4× magnification, with target spot

Who Should Pick Up This Instant Camera

The SQ40 is the right choice for casual photographers, party-goers, and travelers who want a stylish, fully automatic instant camera that delivers tangible prints without manual exposure decisions. Hobbyists building a scrapbook will appreciate the larger 62 × 62 mm square format. Beginners will find the twist-to-power lens ring intuitive, while the 1/400-second top shutter speed helps in bright outdoor scenes.

Red Dot and iF Design Award Recognition

Launched in June 2023, the SQ40 earned both the Red Dot Design Award 2024 and the international iF Design Award, recognizing its blend of classic camera aesthetics with modern usability. Fujifilm's instax line has built a strong following among creators who value the analog process.
