The EL84 is the output tube that gave a whole generation of combo amplifiers their voice: bright on top, quick to respond, and eager to break up once you lean on it. It produces less raw power than the larger octal output tubes, and that is exactly the point — the power section reaches its sweet spot at a volume that is usable in a rehearsal room or a small stage, instead of only at full output.

Current production, not old stock

Electro-Harmonix vacuum tubes are new designs built in Russia, not repackaged old stock, which means consistent supply and consistent behaviour from one tube to the next. Many amplifier manufacturers fit relabelled Electro-Harmonix tubes in their own products.

Before you fit it

The EL84 uses a 9-pin noval base and goes into any amplifier specified for that tube. Output tubes work as a set, so when you replace them, replace all of the output positions together and have the amplifier re-biased if its design requires it. This item is a single tube.
