Professional Tube Logic Modeling for Stage and Studio

The Boss Nextone Artist is a professional-grade amplifier that brings authentic tube amp character to modern gigging musicians. Unlike purely digital modeling amps, the Nextone Artist uses Roland's advanced Tube Logic approach to physically re-voice its entire analog Class AB output circuitry when you select a different power amp type. This means the preamp, power amp, and speaker interaction all change together, delivering genuine sonic and tactile authenticity that rivals traditional tube amplifiers. The Nextone Artist is engineered for players who demand both reliability and tone.

Four Selectable Power Amp Types — The Rare Differentiator

Most amplifiers lock you into a single output tube design, requiring expensive physical tube swaps and bench time to explore different sonic characters. The Nextone Artist eliminates this limitation entirely. With one panel switch, you access four classic analog Class AB power amp circuits: 6V6 (sweet, crisp American tone with organic compression), 6L6 (high-headroom punch with round midrange), EL84 (glassy clean chime and creamy distortion), and EL34 (warm, fat British rock crunch). Each selection re-voices the entire amplifier from input to output, not just the power stage, ensuring authentic behavior at every setting.

Adjustable Power Control for Cranked Tone at Any Volume

The Boss Nextone Artist solves one of the most frustrating problems in modern music: getting rich, responsive tube-amp tone without excessive volume. Traditional tube amps require pushing their output tubes hard to achieve their best sound, but this creates volume that's impractical for bedrooms, studios, and even many venues. The Nextone Artist's power control switch offers four settings: MAX (80 watts) for full-stage projection, HALF for controlled volume with dynamic response, 0.5 watts for silent home practice with authentic tone, and 0.2 watts for ultra-low-volume sessions without sacrificing playing feel. This dynamic power attenuation is powered by Tube Logic, meaning you experience the same complex distortion characteristics and speaker interaction at 0.2 watts as you do at 80 watts.

  • No volume drop when switching power settings — tone and feel remain consistent across all output levels.
  • Extra Headroom switch available via Nextone Editor for added punch and clarity on loud stages.
  • Power control behavior can be customized during power-up or via software.

Clean Channel Excellence with Pedal-Responsive Tone

The Nextone Artist's clean channel is widely praised by players and reviewers as one of its greatest strengths. Unlike many modeling amps that treat the clean tone as a secondary feature, Boss engineered this channel with a solid-state design that responds to external effects pedals with exceptional clarity and three-dimensional projection. The clean channel features a shared three-band equalizer and presence control, allowing you to dial in everything from glassy, pristine cleans to warm, full-bodied tones. Built-in reverb, delay, and tremolo effects are onboard, with three selectable reverb types (plate, spring, hall) and multiple delay options. The Boss Nextone Artist's clean channel with pedals delivers tone and responsiveness that rivals traditional tube amplifiers, making it ideal for players who rely on external effects chains.

Nextone Editor Software for Circuit-Level Customization

The Nextone Artist is far more than a hardware amplifier — it's a customization platform. Connect via USB to the Nextone Editor (Windows/macOS) and become your own amp technician. The software provides sophisticated editing tools that would require bench time with a tech on a traditional tube amp. Adjust bias (fixed or self bias for softer, more vintage feel), sag (how quickly the amp responds to dynamic playing), tone stack type (American or British), and Character Shape (feel and response at the power amp level). Two independent pre and post EQs let you re-voice the preamp section or compensate for different guitars. The Tone switch can be assigned to two different types, and the Boost switch offers eleven characters including compressor. Store up to 99 user presets for different gigs, styles, or gear combinations.

Portable Design with Professional Connectivity

The Nextone Artist weighs 16.2 kg (35.75 lbs), making it genuinely portable for touring and session work despite its 80-watt output and 305 mm 12-inch speaker. Rear connectors include three speaker outputs (8 ohm internal and two 16 ohm jacks for external 4x12 cabinets), a line out for direct PA connection, a phones/recording output for silent practice, and a USB port for both software editing and multi-track recording. The effects loop (series/parallel switchable) accepts external pedals, and the optional GA-FC foot controller provides hands-free control of channels, effects, Tone, Boost, and volume. For recording and re-amping, the USB interface supports multiple channels simultaneously.

Who Benefits Most from the Nextone Artist

The Boss Nextone Artist is the right choice for gigging musicians and serious home players who need professional tone without traditional tube amp complexity. If you're a touring artist, session player, or bandleader who values reliability, lightweight portability, and authentic tone character, the Nextone Artist delivers. It's equally suited to bedroom players who want to explore classic amp tones without the expense of owning multiple tube amps or the neighbor-disturbing volume. Players who use external effects pedals will appreciate the clean channel's responsiveness and three-dimensional sound. The Nextone Artist is not designed for players seeking endless effect options or those who prefer pure digital modeling — it's for tone-focused musicians who want Tube Logic authenticity and the freedom to customize their sound at the circuit level.

Boss and the Nextone Legacy

Boss (a division of Roland Corporation) has defined professional amplification since the 1970s, with legendary products like the Katana series that democratized modeling technology for working musicians. The Nextone series, launched in 2019, represents Boss's premium commitment to gigging professionals who refuse to compromise on tone. The Nextone Artist sits at the intersection of Boss's heritage in tube amp emulation and modern circuit design philosophy — combining the sonic authenticity of Tube Logic with the practical advantages of solid-state reliability. Version 3 updates (including self-bias, solo function, and reconfigurable power control) demonstrate Boss's ongoing commitment to expanding the platform's capabilities based on player feedback.

Daumen hoch!
