Ani DiFranco, born September 23, 1970, is an American-Canadian singer-songwriter known for her dynamic blend of folk rock and alternative rock, with elements of punk, funk, hip hop, and jazz. She has released over 20 albums, all through her independent label, Righteous Babe. DiFranco is recognized for her activism, supporting social and political causes such as abortion rights and LGBT visibility through her music and the Righteous Babe Foundation. She considers folk legend Pete Seeger a mentor. In 2019, she published her memoir, No Walls and the Recurring Dream, which became a New York Times Best Seller. In 2024, DiFranco made her Broadway debut as Persephone in Hadestown, returning to a role she first originated on the concept album.
