UDO DMNO Synthesizer Black

The DMNO Black is an 8-voice, 2-part multitimbral analog-hybrid synthesizer from UDO Audio with two independent synth engines and a Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo VCF. Each engine pairs FPGA-powered digital oscillators with a fully analog signal path, while eight Play Modes redefine how the two timbres interact. The 44-key FATAR keybed with aftertouch, 32-bit DSP effects chain, and class-compliant USB audio interface make it a complete studio and performance instrument.

  • Two independent 4-voice analog-hybrid synth engines (DMNO 1 & DMNO 2) with dedicated front-panel controls
  • FPGA-based super-waveform oscillators with sine, sawtooth, square, triangle, pulse, noise and user-loadable waveforms
  • Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo analog VCF with parallel, series and stereo routing plus low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, all-pass and phase-shifter modes
  • 32-bit DSP effects chain with reverb, delay, distortion, chorus and 3-band EQ; 64-step sequencer and multi-mode arpeggiator

UDO Audio DMNO Black — 8-Voice Analog-Hybrid Synthesizer with Binaural Architecture

The DMNO Black is an 8-voice, 2-part multitimbral analog-hybrid synthesizer from UDO Audio that pairs two independent 4-voice synth engines with a brand-new Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo VCF. Each engine is driven by ultra-high-sample-rate FPGA digital oscillators routed through a fully analog signal path, combining the precision of digital wave generation with the warmth of true analog filtering. Eight creative Play Modes let the two timbres interact in ways that go far beyond conventional splits and layers. Built around the UDO ethos of "The Power of Play," this instrument is unapologetically bold, deeply expressive, and immensely fun to perform.

A New Approach to Analog with Play Modes and Binaural Routing

What sets this synthesizer apart is the Play Modes system, which reconfigures the internal signal architecture at the touch of a single control. Modes such as Cycle, Random, Chaos and Series turn the two engines into a living, interactive instrument rather than a static dual-layer polysynth. A binaural analog signal path gives each channel a complete synthesizer voice with independent detuning across the stereo field, while a high-contrast vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) — the same technology used in classic Ensoniq and Oberheim instruments — replaces menu-heavy interfaces.

FPGA-Powered Oscillators and Binaural Voice Architecture

The sound engine is built on FPGA-based super-waveform oscillator cores, each featuring a centroid oscillator plus six "sister" oscillators that can be dynamically de-phased in the stereo field for wide, thick single-oscillator sounds. In standard mode the instrument delivers 8 voices; binaural mode twins them into 4 "super" voices, with each channel carrying a full synth voice for spatial sound design.

  • Polyphony: 8 voices (4 super voices in binaural mode) — enough for chords, pads and stacked layers in any mode
  • Oscillators: 2 FPGA-based super-waveform cores per engine — sine, sawtooth, square, triangle, pulse, noise plus user-loadable complex waveforms
  • Multitimbrality: 2-part multitimbral with two fully independent synth engines — each with its own dedicated front-panel control set

Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo VCF and Deep Modulation Matrix

The per-voice analog stereo multi-core filter is the most flexible UDO has ever built. It can be routed in parallel, series or stereo, with modes ranging from classic low-pass, high-pass and band-pass to all-pass and phase-shifter shapes. A dedicated delta-cutoff control adjusts the spread between the two filter peaks, while filter overdrive pushes the signal into harmonically rich territory. Three ADSR envelopes, two LFOs and a programmable modulation matrix give players deep control over every parameter.

  • Filter Modes: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, all-pass and phase-shifter — with selectable slopes and two resonance characters
  • Filter Routing: parallel, series or stereo connection per voice — opens up radically different timbral shapes from the same patch
  • Modulation: 2 LFOs and 3 ADSR envelopes plus a programmable mod matrix — with above audio-rate modulation computation

44-Key FATAR Keybed, Sequencer and Studio Connectivity

A 44-key FATAR keybed with aftertouch and a two-axis bender anchors the performance experience. An onboard 64-step sequencer and a MIDI-syncable multi-mode arpeggiator with smart-hold handle pattern work. Connectivity covers DIN MIDI in/out/thru, class-compliant USB MIDI, a 2-in 2-out 24-bit USB audio interface, stereo external audio input with variable-gain preamp, gate detector and envelope follower, plus two user-assignable CV and gate/clock outputs on 3.5 mm sockets.

  • Keybed: 44-key FATAR with aftertouch and two-axis bender — full performance expression in a compact footprint
  • Sequencer & Arpeggiator: 64-step sequencer plus multi-mode arpeggiator with smart-hold — 16 rewritable sequence memory slots
  • Connectivity: USB audio/MIDI, DIN MIDI, 2× CV and 2× gate outputs, stereo audio I/O — integrates with Eurorack, DAW and external gear

For Sound Designers, Performers and Hybrid-Synth Enthusiasts

The DMNO Black is the right choice for sound designers and performing keyboardists who want a hands-on control surface combined with the depth of a hybrid analog-digital architecture. Players exploring spatial textures will appreciate binaural mode, while those pushing into overdriven territory will find plenty in the new filter section. Live performers benefit from the eight Play Modes — Cycle, Random and Chaos turn the instrument into a generative tool that responds to keyboard input in unexpected ways. Studio producers gain a class-compliant USB audio interface, CV/gate outputs and a 32-bit DSP effects chain with reverb, delay, distortion, chorus and 3-band EQ.

UDO Audio and the Power of Play

UDO Audio built its reputation on the Super Series — the Super 6, Super 8 and Super Gemini — instruments that established the company's hybrid analog-digital voice and binaural signal path. This flagship takes that foundation further: where the Super Series "knock politely and enter with elegance," DMNO "kicks the door down." Built with no-compromise components, it is designed to be an instrument for life.

Aftertouch

Aftertouch: Yes

Aftertouch technology on the keys allows musicians to add a new level of expression to their playing. When a key reaches the bottom of its stroke, the pressure exerted on the key can continue to be sensed and used to control various aspects of the sound, such as vibrato, volume, or tone modulation.

Polyphony

Polyphony: 8

The polyphony of this instrument allows up to <%=tp_value % notes to be played simultaneously, providing rich and complex musical possibilities.

LFO

LFO: 2

An LFO, or low frequency oscillator, brings electronic sound to life. It adds movement and interest to synthetic sounds and effects, playing an important role in both subtle synthesis and bold sound design. However, you won't hear the LFO itself because it acts as a modulator. This means that it does not directly affect the audio signal, but adjusts other parameters such as oscillator pitch and filter clipping.

Oscillators

Oscillators: 2

This dual-oscillator synthesizer offers a wide range of sonic possibilities that combine harmonic and non-harmonic tones. Users can adjust the frequency and amplitude of each oscillator separately, allowing harmonious layering of sounds, creating unison effects or captivating modulations.

Pitch Bend: Yes

The Pitch Bend allows smooth pitch changes, adding expressiveness to musical expression. Often used to create effects such as glissando or vibrato, this feature allows the player to make subtle or dramatic changes to the sound in real time. Pitch bend allows musicians to create smooth transitions between notes, increasing the dynamics and expressiveness of their performances.

Modulation: Yes

Modulation allows you to change different aspects of the sound in real time, opening up a wide range of creative possibilities. For example, it can affect the pitch of the sound, creating a vibrato effect, or it can change the amplitude of the signal, creating a tremolo effect. It can also adjust filtering to create smooth transitions between frequency bands and dynamic textures. Modulation can also be used to change the character of the sound depending on the time or intensity of playing, giving the sound a lively and moving character.

Arpeggiator: Yes

The Arpeggiator transforms chords into sequences of individual notes played in various rhythmic and melodic patterns. Instead of playing the chords as a harmonic whole, the Arpeggiator breaks the chords into individual notes and plays them sequentially according to the selected algorithm.
