D'Addario J814 1/2M G Violin Strings

D'Addario Prelude Violin G String — Warm Tone for 1/2 Size Violins

The D'Addario Prelude Violin Single G String is a 1/2 scale, medium tension replacement string designed for student violinists and educators who need a reliable, warm-sounding G string for a fractional-size instrument. Built around a solid steel core and wound with nickel, this G string delivers the warmest tone available in D'Addario's student string range, making it a natural choice for beginners working through their first years of playing. Unlike traditional gut or synthetic core strings, the solid steel construction is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, so the string stays stable in pitch whether the instrument is stored in a cool practice room or carried to a warmer lesson space. Scaled to a playing length of 216 mm (8 1/2 inches), the string matches the proportions of a 1/2 size violin and pairs naturally with other strings in the Prelude student line. Packaged in a uniquely-designed sealed pouch, the string is shielded from the elements that cause corrosion, extending shelf life between purchases.

Who It's For

The D'Addario Prelude Violin Single G String in 1/2 scale is the right choice for student violinists, parents, and string educators who need a dependable replacement G string for a fractional-size violin. It suits beginners moving from a starter set into their first individually purchased string, as well as school music programs that need an affordable, durable option for daily classroom use. Medium tension offers a balanced feel under the bow that works well for early technique development, while the solid steel core and nickel winding provide the warm, stable tone that educators prefer for student players. Because the string is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, it is also well suited to young players who travel between home, school, and lessons with their instrument. Whether replacing a worn G string on a 1/2 size violin or building a custom set piece by piece, this string delivers consistent performance at a student-friendly price point.
