D'Addario J811 1/8M E Violin Strings

D'Addario Prelude Violin Single E String — Replacement E for 1/8 Scale Student Violins

The D'Addario Prelude Violin Single E String is a single replacement E string designed specifically for 1/8 scale violins, the size most commonly used by younger students and beginners. As part of the Prelude line — described by D'Addario as the educator's preferred choice for student strings — this E string carries the same solid steel core construction that has made Prelude the world's best-selling steel core string. It is intended as a direct replacement when an individual E string breaks or wears out, without requiring the purchase of a full four-string set.

Built with a ball-end fitting and medium tension calibrated for fractional-size instruments, the string offers balanced feel under the bow and a warm tone that suits a wide range of playing styles. The solid steel core contains a pitch-stable alloy for durability and resilience, providing the greatest longevity of all the string cores in the D'Addario orchestral lineup. Because the design is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, the E holds its tuning reliably through daily practice, classroom use, and changing seasons — a practical advantage for school music programs and home learners alike.

Who This String Is For

The D'Addario Prelude Single E String in 1/8 scale is the right choice for student violinists, parents, and string teachers who need a reliable replacement E string for a fractional-size instrument. It fits 1/8 violins — the size typically played by children roughly ages 5 to 7 — and pairs naturally with the matching Prelude A, D, and G strings to complete a full set. Music educators and school rental programs favor Prelude because the solid steel core withstands the heavy use of beginner players and the design holds up under frequent tuning changes.

Because the line covers classical, fiddle, jazz, and alternative styles, this E string works equally well for a child taking their first Suzuki lessons, a young student joining a school orchestra, or a fiddle player starting out on a smaller instrument. The ball-end construction simplifies installation at the fine tuner or tailpiece, and the medium tension keeps the string comfortable under the left hand while still producing a clear, projecting E that cuts through ensemble playing. For anyone seeking a durable, affordable replacement E for a 1/8 violin, this single string delivers the same warm, dependable character as the full Prelude set.
