D'Addario J812 1/8M A Violin Strings

Prelude Violin A String: Warm Tone and Durability for Fractional-Size Violins

The D'Addario Prelude Violin Single A String is a replacement string built specifically for 1/8 scale violins, the smallest standard fractional size used by young beginners. As part of the Prelude line — often called one of the best-sounding student strings available — this single A string delivers the warm tone and reliable performance that educators and rental programs depend on. Unlike gut or synthetic-core strings, Prelude uses a solid steel core that holds its pitch through temperature swings and humidity changes, so the instrument stays in tune during long practice sessions, school rehearsals, and seasonal climate shifts.

Designed as a single replacement rather than a full set, this string lets teachers, parents, and students replace just the broken or worn A string without purchasing a complete set. The medium tension offers a balanced response under the bow that suits most developing players, while the solid blue silking at the ball end provides a secure anchor at the tailpiece. Every Prelude string is 100% designed, engineered, and crafted in D'Addario's New York facilities, the same manufacturing standard applied across the company's orchestral lineup.

Who It's For

The D'Addario Prelude Single A String in 1/8 scale is the right choice for teachers, parents, and rental programs who need a reliable replacement string for the smallest fractional violins. It suits young beginners working through their first years of instruction, school orchestra programs that need a dependable, budget-friendly string, and rental fleet managers looking for strings that hold up under frequent student turnover. The medium tension pairs well with most student-level violins and bows, and the solid steel core means the string stays stable through seasonal climate changes — a real advantage for instruments stored in unheated practice rooms or transported between home and lesson. Because Prelude is the educator's preferred student string, this single replacement maintains the same warm tone and consistent performance as the full set, so a swapped-out A string blends seamlessly with the rest of the instrument.
