D'Addario J913 XSM Viola Strings

The D'Addario Prelude Viola Single G String for Extra Short Scale Instruments

The D'Addario Prelude Viola Single G String, Extra Short Scale, Medium Tension, is a replacement string purpose-built for 13"–14" fractional violas used by younger players and advancing students. Engineered around a solid steel core with a pitch-stable alloy, this G string produces the warm tone that has made Prelude the educator's preferred choice for student strings. The ball-end design allows quick installation at the tailpiece, and the medium tension delivers a balanced feel under the bow that supports developing technique. Unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, the string holds its tuning through daily practice and classroom conditions.

Who It's For

This G string is the right choice for students, teachers, and parents who need a reliable replacement string for a 13"–14" fractional viola without purchasing a full set. Its solid steel core and medium tension provide the warm tone, durability, and stable pitch that beginners need to maintain interest and develop proper technique. Resistant to temperature and humidity changes, it performs consistently in practice rooms, school music programs, and home settings. Suitable for classical, fiddle, jazz, and alternative styles, the string serves the same broad repertoire as the full Prelude set while letting players replace just the G when needed. Educators and luthiers also turn to this single string for quick repairs on student rental instruments.
