D'Addario J914 SM Viola Strings

Warm Tone and Tuning Stability for Short-Scale Violas

The D'Addario Prelude Viola Single C String is a replacement string designed specifically for short-scale violas, where body length typically measures 13"–14". Built around a solid steel core with a pitch-stable alloy, this string delivers the warmest sound available within D'Addario's affordable student string range. The unique damping process used in Prelude strings gives the C string a focused, resonant voice with excellent bow response, making it a practical upgrade over generic factory strings that often sound thin or unstable on smaller-bodied instruments. Because the core is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, the string holds its tuning reliably in classrooms, rehearsal halls, and on stage. A solid blue silking at the ball end completes the construction, signalling the same build quality found across the entire Prelude orchestral line.
