D'Addario J1014 1/2M C 1/2 Cello Strings

Purpose-Built Replacement C String for 1/2 Size Cellos

The D'Addario Prelude Cello Single C String, 1/2 Scale, Medium Tension, is a single replacement string designed specifically for 1/2 size cellos used by developing players. Built around a solid steel core with nickel winding, this C string produces a warm, focused tone that holds pitch reliably through temperature and humidity changes in practice rooms, classrooms, and recital halls. The medium tension offers a balanced feel under the bow, encouraging comfortable technique without overwhelming smaller hands.

As part of the Prelude line — D'Addario's educator-preferred student string family — the J1014 is intended to replace a worn or broken string on an existing set, or to complete a custom combination of tensions. It carries the same construction as the C string inside the full Prelude Cello String Set, so a player can swap one string without retuning the rest of the instrument. Made in the USA at D'Addario's New York production facility, the string features a ball-end fitting for quick installation into standard cello tailpieces.

Who This String Is For

This single C string is the right choice for student cellists, school music programs, and rental fleets that need a reliable replacement for a 1/2 size cello. Its medium tension suits players who want a balanced feel that supports classical, bluegrass, jazz, and rock styles without requiring a heavier or lighter setup.

Educators and parents will appreciate that the solid steel core and nickel winding hold up to frequent practice, transport, and the occasional environmental swing between a chilly car and a warm rehearsal room. The ball-end design makes string changes fast for teachers working with multiple students, and the warm tone keeps young players engaged during long practice sessions.

Anyone already running a Prelude set on a 1/2 cello can use this replacement to swap out a snapped or worn string while keeping the rest of the set intact, making it a practical spare to keep in any cello case.
