D'Addario J612 3/4M Double bass Strings

Replacement D String for 3/4 Double Bass

The D'Addario Prelude Bass Single D String is a single replacement string designed for 3/4 size double basses, built around a multi-stranded steel core that delivers a warm, clear tone with dependable bow response. Sized to a 41 3/4 inch (1060 mm) playing length and tensioned for medium feel, this D string drops into a school orchestra, jazz ensemble, or practice room without forcing the player to relearn the instrument. The stranded core construction and reduced tension make it noticeably easier to press and bow than typical solid-core steel strings, which is exactly why educators reach for it when a student breaks a string mid-term. A ball end at the tailpiece side speeds up installation so the bass is back in playing condition within minutes.

Who It's For

The D'Addario Prelude Bass Single D String is the right choice for students, school orchestra programs, and developing players who need a stable, easy-playing replacement string for a 3/4 size double bass. Medium tension and the stranded steel core make it forgiving under the fingers of younger players who are still building left-hand strength, while the warm, clear tone blends cleanly inside a school ensemble or section. Resistance to temperature and humidity changes keeps the bass in tune between a cold practice room and a warm stage, which matters when a student is moving between classrooms several times a week. It also suits adult players returning to the instrument who want a low-maintenance string that holds pitch without constant retuning.
