Squier Affinity Series Active Jazz Bass — Active Electronics, Real Fender DNA

The Squier Affinity Series Active Jazz Bass is a four-string electric bass that pairs the iconic offset-waist J Bass silhouette with a fully active onboard preamp — a first for the Affinity line. Built around a lightweight poplar body and a slim "C"-shaped maple neck, this model targets aspiring bassists who want modern tonal flexibility. The Olympic White finish with a 3-ply black pickguard looks clean and stage-ready.

What Sets This J Bass Apart

Unlike most entry-tier basses, this model ships with a true active 9-volt preamp featuring separate bass and treble boost/cut controls — not a single passive tone knob. The Squier Ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickups are voiced in-house at Fender and use a hum-cancelling design, eliminating the 60-cycle hum. Vintage-style open-gear tuning machines and a 4-saddle bridge round out the hardware.

Body Construction — Lightweight Poplar With a Classic J Bass Shape

Poplar makes up the body, a tonewood prized for its light weight, finished in gloss polyurethane for a durable, road-ready surface. The offset-waist contour sits comfortably against the forearm, and the slim profile keeps total weight around 4.03 kg. Chrome hardware and a 3-ply black pickguard complete the Olympic White variant.

• Body Material: Poplar — light, balanced resonance that won't fatigue your shoulder
• Body Finish: Gloss Polyurethane — sealed against sweat and strap wear
• 4-Saddle Standard bridge with individual saddle adjustment for clean intonation

Neck & Fingerboard — Fast "C" Profile With Maple-on-Maple Feel

A bolt-on maple neck with a satin urethane finish gives the left hand a smooth glide. The maple fingerboard features a 9.5" radius (241 mm) for chord work and bending. Twenty medium jumbo frets and black pearloid block inlays add a vintage '70s Jazz Bass visual cue.

• Neck Material: Maple — bright, articulate attack with a stable response
• Fingerboard Material: Maple — bright tonal character with a slick feel
• Scale Length: 864 mm — full 34" J Bass scale for proper tension and thump

Active Electronics — Noiseless Pickups With 2-Band EQ

Two Squier Ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass single-coils sit in the classic J Bass positions, delivering articulate tone without hum. The active 9V preamp uses a master volume, a pickup blend knob, and a stacked bass/treble boost/cut control. Nickel plated steel strings in .045-.105 gauges ship from the factory.

• Pickup Configuration: SS (dual single-coil) — classic J Bass voicing
• Controls: Master Volume, Blend Knob, Active Bass/Treble Boost/Cut — full active EQ
• Nickel plated steel strings in .045-.105 gauges ship installed for slap, pick, and fingerstyle

Who Should Play This Bass

The Squier Affinity Series Active Jazz Bass is the right choice for beginners and intermediate players who want active EQ on a real J Bass platform without paying flagship-tier prices. Students will appreciate the slim "C" neck profile and the forgiving 38.1 mm nut width. Gigging bassists get a lightweight backup for pop, rock, funk, and slap.

Squier by Fender — The Gateway to the Fender Family

Squier has served as Fender's affordable sub-brand for decades, offering players an entry point into the Fender design language. The addition of active electronics to the Affinity Jazz Bass lineup marks a meaningful upgrade, carrying the same J Bass DNA that has powered countless records since the 1960s.
